Evaluating Fire, Smoke and Odor damage is complex and intricate. Flood Response professionals go through a particular process when evaluating fire and smoke damage.

First, Flood Response targets the type of smoke that has saturated the structure.

  • Wet smoke residue – result from smoldering fires with low heat. The residues are sticky, smeary and have pungent odors. Smoke webs can be difficult to clean.
  • Dry smoke residue – result from fast burning fires at high temperatures. Residues are often dry, powdery, small, non-smeary smoke particles.
  • Protein residue – nearly invisible residue that can discolor paints or varnishes and have an extremely pungent odor.
  • Fuel Oil soot – Furnace puff backs distribute fuel oil soot.
  • Other Residues – needing clean up Tear Gas, fingerprint powder & fire extinguisher

Flood Response then identifies 3 key aspects for an effective result...

#1

The full extent of the damage and how
to protect the unaffected areas before
soot & odor spreads further.

#2

What materials can be restored & those that need to be replaced.

#3

The most effective cleaning methods
for the damage.
